[...Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields...]

vous pouvez me lire en français ici

hello !!

on sunday i went to New York, as usual, except that i went super early so i would have time to go for a long walk before trying to catch a matinee show.

if you wanna understand this article and you don't watch glee, i strongly recommend you watch this cover of Yesterday(Beatles) by Lea Michele, aka Rachel Berry [x].
with Cory Monteith's death, her life and stage partner, added to the fact that they had shot scenes in those exact same spots, this song, opening the new season of glee, was extremely moving...

...so i followed Rachel's steps around Central Park while listening to the song on repeat.

i first took a little detour through "Strawberry Fields", a memorial for John Lennon, a reference of course to the Beatles song "Strawberry fields forever", which was quite fitting since i was listening to the beatles. covered by glee, granted, but still the beatles.

the entrance to "Strawberry Fields" is facing the building where Lennon was assassinated, and i the center of the memorial, you can see a mosaïc reading "imagine", Lennon's most famous song.

i'll try to come back on lennon's birthday or on the anniversary of his death, apparently fans come to sing, that could be quite cool.

visually speaking, nothing exceptional, grass and bushes. but there was a guy singing and playing "i walk the line" by Johnny Cash, and it was nice.

i then headed towards the famous "Bow Bridge" and Bethesda Terrace

i then let my steps lead me to the "Belvedere Castle"

and pushed to the "reservoir"...

...before coming back to the main place, and then head towards the South Exit by walking down the main alleyway :  "Central Park Mall"

the Mall

that's when i came across two guys making giant soap bubbles, just like in the vidoe ! i thought it was just a romantic device for the show, but no, they are really here

also a lot of squirrels

quite a long walk (more than three hours), ad yet i am far away from having seen it all
i then went to the theatre "the Majestic", to ask if they still sold tickets for the matinee. the show started two hours later.
and then, bam ! miracle ! a 37 dollards ticket for an orchestra seat, aka right at the front, aka the best seats in the house, aka the most expensive tickets in the house !

of course i jumped on the occasion, i mean...chicago, in an orchestra seat, for 37 dollars...that's a steal ! i almost felt bad. almost.
buying last minute tickets : super good plan

and since i was in the area and i had two hours to kill, i went to the Nintendo World store, just so i could tease my friend Alban with the photos ('cause i couldn't care less)

i have to admit, the outside looks nice, all in glass with pictures of the characters from various games. there is also a showcase with the evolution of the consoles, which is quite fun to see, even when you're not into video games. it still is a shop for geeks.

and since it was around the corner, i went to the Rockefeller Center

with one huge shop on each side : on the left : Lego. on the right : Longchamps.
...so of course i chose Lego

do you recognize it? it's "manhattan bridge" !!

in the window, they had built a reproduction of the Rockefeller Center, with lots of funny details, like a pickpocket stealing a tourist's money, a Dark Vador walking among the crowd with his mask on, and various super-heros, such as Batman, Spiderman, and all the Avengers, climbed up the towers.
there even was a Gandalf with his fireworks cart.

on my way back towards Broadway, i went to the NBC channel store, where you can buy tee-shirts and other merchandise from the NBC TV series, such as Friends, Community, Smash, or Doctor Who, and many others i do not watch.

finally, i headed back towards "the Majestic", because it was showtime !
but that will be the subject of the next article....

...to be continued...
